P.T. Rail Floor Mast

Description

The P.T. Rail Floor Mast is a vertical post bolted to the floor that serves as an alternative mounting structure for the P.T. Rail Grab Bar when you either cannot or do not want to fasten the rail to a wall. It is specifically designed to carry the load of the rail and user, so the forces go into the floor structure instead of into drywall or a weak wall.

How it works with the P.T. Rail

1. The mast anchors to the floor

   • The base plate of the mast is a thick steel plate (about 0.25″ thick) with 4–5 holes for heavy-duty fasteners into the structural floor (wood, concrete, etc.).

   • When installed with appropriate fasteners and a solid floor, the system is rated for up to 400 lb / 181 kg user weight, subject to fastener and floor quality.

2. The P.T. Rail clamps onto the mast

   • Instead of screwing the rail’s wall plate to a wall, you use a clamp plate and bolts that wrap around the mast and hold the rail to it.

   • You slide this clamp up or down the mast and tighten it at the desired height using the supplied bolts and a hex key.

3. Height-adjustable support

   • The design allows the top of the P.T. Rail to be set roughly between 31–36″ (about 79–91 cm) from the floor, depending on user needs.

   • This is the same functional range recommended in the P.T. Rail instructions (about 81–86 cm typical), but the mast lets you fine-tune without depending on where studs are in the wall.

4. Distance from wall or toilet

   • Because the mast can be placed at different distances from the wall, it gives flexibility: the rail can be closer to or farther from the toilet than a strictly wall-mounted version, which is useful if the bathroom layout is awkward.

   • You first decide where the rail needs to be relative to the toilet (or bed, small step, etc.), then position the mast accordingly and bolt it down.
