The 1100 climbs on a friction drive developed by Handicare, so there is no gear rack at all u2014 the travel rail is completely sealed, with no openings to collect dust, dirt or grease, and the ride starts and stops gently.

The Handicare 1100 suits riders who want the cleanest, most discreet straight stairlift for indoor use. Instead of a conventional gear rack, it climbs on a patented four-motor friction drive, which means the travel rail is fully sealed — nothing open to gather dust, dirt, or lubricant along the staircase.
That drive design also makes the 1100 one of the slimmest units we install: the seat, arms, and footrest fold to just 12 5/8 inches deep, and the batteries charge continuously along the rail so the lift is ready from any stopping point.
Options are focused on keeping the home unobstructed. A slide track shifts the rail away from a doorway at the bottom of the stairs, zero-intrusion brackets shorten the footprint at the top landing, and an easy-hinge section with gas strut lifts clear when the stairlift is not in use. A powered swivel seat and powered folding footrest reduce twisting and bending for the rider.
Rated at 310 lb and designed for residential indoor staircases, the 1100 comes standard with obstacle sensors, a retractable seat belt, an overspeed governor, and two remote controls. We measure the staircase and configure the rail options during an in-home assessment.
